Crystal-Growing Instructions

Safety Notes
Be extremely careful when handling hot water. Always have an audit helper assist you when using heating elements or when pouring hot liquids.
Do not eat or swallow any of the crystals, chemicals or solutions.
If chemicals or solutions spill on your skin, rinse immediately with soap and water.
If chemicals or solutions get in your eyes, rinse immediately with warm water.
If chemicals or solutions are swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.
Crystal-Growing Steps:
Step 1: Pour 1 cup of hot water into a clear, heat-proof container (an empty glass jar is the most ideal). You will want to use VERY hot water, so be sure to have an adult help you.
Step 2: Using the stirring stick, dissolve the crystal-growing powder into the water, stirring until all the powder is dissolved.
Step 3: Put your experiment in a place where it will not be disturbed, and let it cool slowly for 15 minutes.
Step 4: Add the seed crystals.
Step 5: Allow the experiment to sit undisturbed for 3-4 days. You should start to see crystals forming within a day, but the longer you let the experiment sit, the larger your crystals will be.
Leave the crystal-growing jar uncovered so that the water will evaporate. This super-saturates the liquid so that the crystals will continue to grow! And remember: crystals like stable growing conditions, so try not to move your experiment while the crystal is growing.
